While Apple revamped System Preferences on macOS Ventura, the flow of checking your current macOS version is slightly different. The systems following Mountain Lion - Yosemite and Mavericks - are no longer available. Go to Apple menu > About This Mac See the name of your current macOS in the Overview section To check for pending macOS updates, choose Software Update. Some people consider that Snow Leopard is preferable to Mountain Lion in various ways, but unfortunately it's no longer supported and many programs and websites won't work. You will receive a code to enable you to download it from the Mac App Store. If your Mac doesn't comply with the requirements you may be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion (10.8) which is available in the Online Store: I am using VMware Work Station on Windows 7. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) I installed a Mac 10.6.8 on VMWare sometime ago just to get a feel of OSX, I want to know what is the best way to upgrade my OSX 10.6.8 to upgrade to the latest version on VMWare. However the Store will not download this if it detects that your computer is not compliant with the requirements, which are I have an old Mac, currently running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard that I must upgrade to OS X 10.10 Yosemite. The current OS is 'El Capitan' - 10.11 - and is available in the Mac App Store in Applications: it's free. It's a really bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - and I've asked the Hosts to remove it.
